Policy

Welcome to our Policy Page. This is the place to locate information pertinent to public policy—the trends affecting our ability to act at the local, state and national level to improve the well-being of young children, strengthen families, prevent child abuse and promote substance-free communities.

The types of information you can find here:

  • The Policy Base: The dictionary defines policy as a "method of action selected from alternatives…to guide and determine present and future decisions." Issues of policy are at the heart of designing and winning support for effective prevention programs. Part of the Free To Grow approach is to identify and employ those techniques that have been tested and found to improve the lives of at-risk children. In the Policy Page, you can read what practitioners, academics, and those concerned with the well-being of children are saying to lawmakers, peers, the media and opinion makers about how best to ensure that our children live in substance-free, violence-free families and communities now, and in the future. You can also access documents pertinent to state and national policy trends that impact the work of programs like Free To Grow.
